Assess Your Area of Pain

A thorough evaluation, review of your diagnostic studies, and comprehensive examination is needed to determine the best treatment options for your condition. At Serenity Medical Centers, we take an integrated approach to pain relief, using regenerative medicine strategies to assist your body in repairing injury, and neuromuscular re-education to reduce the risk of re-injury optimizing your long-term outcome.

Neck Pain

Your neck supports your head and provides stability and flexibility over many years. Neck pain can be a result of many things including trauma, osteoarthritis or the cumulative effects of aging and poor posture. Because your neck is such a vulnerable structure, pain can stem from herniated discs, damaged or weakened facet joints, ligament laxity, nerve compression or arthritis.

Clicking, popping, catching, and pain along the arm are commonly seen with neck injuries. Depending on the diagnosis, treatments for your neck may include steroid injection, Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate or Platelet Lysate. Physical therapy can effectively compliment neck rehabilitation by addressing deep stabilizer control and postural correction.

Back Pain

Your back supports the structure of the body but can easily be injured or compromised by accidents, sport injuries, or degenerative conditions. Back injuries can prevent you from performing basic daily functions and doing the things you love.

A number of structures including the spinal disks, facet joints and ligaments provide stability and flexibility. This allows your body to bend, twist, and manage loads. Common conditions such as disc herniation, nerve compression, facet joint arthritis, and sacroiliac joint pain can be treated using a combination of steroid injection, Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate or Platelet Lysate. EMSCULPT Core Conditioning has been a very helpful tool in relieving back pain. Physical therapy can be helpful to stabilize the back and core in order to respond appropriately to all of life’s demands.

Shoulder Pain

Your shoulder is the most mobile joint in your body. Most activities of daily life, including sports, require excellent shoulder mobility and pain-free movement. The shoulder is a complex system comprising the joint capsule, ligaments, tendons, and the labrum which controls the ball in the socket of the joint. The rotator cuff is a group of tendons that wrap around the ball and socket joint and injuries to these tendons are a very common cause of shoulder pain. Repetitive use leads to partial tears, instability, and degeneration with resultant arthritis and laxity of the shoulder joint.

Most shoulder injuries can be treated with either intraarticular steroid injection or hyaluronan injection, Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy. Once structural stability is restored, neuromuscular re-education and scapular stabilization through closed chain exercise can reduce the risk of re-injury.

Knee Pain

Your knee is the largest joint in your body and is subject to a wide variety of injuries and inflammatory disorders. Impact from sports and weight-bearing over many years contribute to wearing out of the knee joint connective tissues. Common injuries include strains and tears of the medial and lateral meniscus, tears of the anterior cruciate and posterior cruciate ligaments, and tears of the medial collateral and lateral collateral ligaments that stabilize the joint. Joint laxity, pain, and deformity occur over time.

Knee osteoarthritis, meniscus tears, tendinitis, instability and ligament tears can be treated with Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy. Physical therapy is helpful in identifying instability and compromise through the kinetic chain that is often at the root of knee injury.

Most Knee injuries can be treated with either intraarticular steroid injection or hyaluronan injection, Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy.

Hip Pain

Your hip is subject to a wide variety of injuries and inflammatory disorders. Weight-bearing and sports-related impact over many years contribute to degeneration of the hip joint cartilage and supportive capsule and ligaments. Pain in the hip may be felt in the buttock, the groin, and even down to the knee. Hip pain is often associated with osteoarthritis, muscle strains, bursitis, labral tears, and tendinitis of the gluteus, medius, gluteus minimus, and piriformis tendons. The hip can be a challenging joint to treat, but after a comprehensive examination and thorough review of your diagnostic studies, our team can discuss your treatment options, which often include Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy. Prescriptive exercise can be helpful if pain is coming from muscle imbalance around this critical joint, but sometimes hip joint replacement is needed when the arthritis is too advanced.

Elbow Pain

Our elbows are hinge joints that allow flexion and rotation of our forearms. Many sports require stability and flexibility of the elbows to optimize performance. Many of the muscles for the wrist and hand originate at the elbow. Stress, overuse, and injury of these tendons may commonly affect the medial elbow, called “Golfer’s Elbow”, and the lateral elbow, called “Tennis Elbow”. The elbow joint may also be prone to arthritis and bursitis.

Most elbow injuries can be treated with either intraarticular steroid injection or hyaluronan injection, Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy. Similar to the knee, physical therapy is helpful in identifying instability and compromise through the kinetic chain that is often at the root of elbow injury.

SI Joint Pain

The sacroiliac (SI) joint serves as the linkage between your upper body and your lower body. Lifting, bending, and twisting can load the sacroiliac ligaments and transmits substantial forces through these tough structures. The sacroiliac joint and the supportive ligaments can be partially torn over many years or abruptly torn with large forces and can cause severe pain, which is most commonly felt in the low back and buttocks.

Sacroiliac joint pain can mimic other conditions, such as a herniated disc or hip joint injury. Often several structures are injured. A thorough evaluation, review of your diagnostic studies, and comprehensive examination is needed to determine the source of pain in this complex area. Steroid Injections and Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy are often helpful with this challenging condition. Strengthening of the abdominal core and gluteal muscles can assist in long-term functional stabilization across the SI joint, significantly reducing the risk of re-injury. Therefore EMSCULPT/EMSELLA and Physical Therapy are valuable tools to recovery.

Wrist Pain

The wrist is a complex system of bones and joints where your hand and forearm meet. There are many ligaments and joint capsule structures that support and provide stability while offering flexibility. Wrist pain is often a result of ligament sprains, tears, or fractures sustained through sudden injuries or from repetitive use. Arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome may occur as well. Pain in the hands or wrists may be associated with the frequent use of smartphones and computer-focused work environments.

Steroid injections and Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy are often helpful with this challenging condition. Strengthening of the core and gluteal muscles can assist in long-term functional stabilization across the SI joint, significantly reducing the risk of re-injury.

Ankle Pain

The ankle bears tremendous force throughout your life while you walk and run. Many ligaments and joints working together provide the ankle with strength and stability. Ankle pain may be caused by an acute injury, such as with a “sprained ankle”. Chronic ankle pain may result from stretching of one or more of the ankle ligaments, or injury to various tendons including the Achilles tendon. Fractures may also cause chronic arthritis. The ankle joint can develop arthritis as well.

Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy are very helpful in treating chronic ankle pain. The ankle and foot provide an enormous amount of information to your brain regarding where your body is in space. Movement therapies focused on restoration of control, mobility, and stability of the foot and ankle are critical because through these structures we interact with our world.

Foot Pain

The foot has a highly complex, integrated structure of ligaments and joints that provide stability and strength. Years of exercise and weight-bearing can cause injuries to the joints and tendons in the mid-foot, arch, and toes. The plantar fascia can become injured as the arch collapses or due to severe and repetitive heel impact. A bunion frequently forms as the great toe loses ligamentous stability. Other toe problems such as “turf toe” and “Morton’s Neuroma” form from ligament and nerve injury.

Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy are very helpful in treating chronic foot and toe pain.

TMJ Pain

Your Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is used daily for activities including talking and chewing food. The joint rotates and also translates forward during use. The TMJ comprises the joint capsule, ligaments, tendons, and the meniscus which controls the motion of the joint. Repetitive use leads to partial tears, instability, and meniscus degeneration with resultant arthritis and laxity of the TMJ.

Painful and tight TMJ syndrome due to teeth grinding or clenching ca be effectively treated with Botox injections.

Most TMJ laxity and pain can be treated with Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy. Since the TMJ is also directly impacted by the posture, strength, and muscle balance of the cervical spine, therapies addressing these issues can reduce the risk of recurrent strain.

Headaches & Migraines

Most headache pain does not actually originate in the head; the connections from the upper neck are more commonly the source of headache pain. The upper facet joints in the neck and the ligaments and tendons that attach to the base of the head are common sources of headache pain.

Tenderness, popping, and pain referring to the ears, occiput, temporal region and face are common headache patterns that are treatable with Orthobiologic / Cellular Therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma, Bone Marrow Concentrate, and Prolotherapy. Botox can reduce the intensity and frequency of episodes. Specialized physical therapy can effectively compliment neck rehabilitation by addressing deep stabilizer control and postural correction and has been found to be a powerful compliment to treating headache sufferers.
